I learned lots of new engineering basics, like how to dimension a multiview drawing and how to use Inventor. This was my first class where I was able to do the 3D modeling online. It was also a first time for me to create something on my own and build it. Doing these different things gave me an idea of what I might do on a daily basis if I become an engineer.
My favorite projects from this class were the cardboard chair and the puzzle cube project. Both of these had Inventor work and hands-on building. It was fun to watch the people try and solve my puzzle cube and sit in my cardboard chair. A project that was not my favorite was the 20 rectangles project. It was difficult to try and come up with unique, real life ideas that could be made out of rectangles. Most things in life are not all rectangular, so I had to come up with an idea that would fit within the constraints and criteria. But, this allowed me to think deeper to come up with something creative and different.
Overall, we completed many projects and activities in this class. We did six projects, several activity packets, and we took two field trips. Intro to engineering and design was defiantly my most challenging class of freshman year. The actual work that we completed was not too difficult, but the workload was often stressful. Even though the class was a lot of work, it was very beneficial. It taught me how to manage my time more effectively. Also, this was only preparing me for the future. There will be a lot of work in college, and if I can handle this it makes me more confident about my future.
